High pr doc files
-
I saw that the website www.comunicatedepresa.net outranks www.comunicatedepresa.ro for the therm "comunicate de presa" in google.ro SERP even though .ro beats .net in every seo indicator (links, domains linking, fb likes, g+, onpage etc)
I saw that site:www.comunicatedepresa.net returns a lot of *.doc files with a title that contains the kw ("comunicate de presa").
Ex:
www.comunicatedepresa.net/worddoc/1485/
It seems a little suspicios to me.Did anyone see this before (google giving higher importance to doc files)?
Does anyone know why .net site is ranking better?

I love these questions because they defy the laws of Google gravity! There are many "indicators" outside of the commonly discussed you find most often in these forums. You are on the right track in suspecting that Google takes the format of a site's content into consideration. If a site has relevant textual content along with a variety of downloadable .doc or .pdf files with relevant titles, preference may be swayed toward the site that seems to offer the most relevant information. Variety does matter, whether you're offering content that's supported by images, videos, outbound links, .doc documents, or .pdf documents, etc.
I also suspect that .net extension carries more weight than .ro, but there's no conclusive evidence that I can find.

Question about Image Optimization and File Size -- Does it really matter
I was using Moz's guidelines (https://mza.seotoolninja.com/learn/seo/page-speed) to reduce the file size of my pages to improve load speed, but I'm not sure it really makes much of a difference. On this page https://www.mtecorp.com/cad/MAPP0006A002/, the file size is 710KB and it's Google Page Insight Score is 84 on desktop and 66 on mobile. On this page https://www.mtecorp.com/cad/SWNW0130E/, I got the image size to 227KB and its Google Page insight Score is virtually the same, 87 on desktop and 62 on mobile. Any ideas if it is really worth the time to get images down? (or maybe it doesn't matter if it is less than 1,000KB.

Where to put 301 redirects in my Wordpress htaccess file?
I have about 25 301 redirects in my Wordpress htaccess file, that look like this: <code>Redirect301/store/index.html https://www.notesinspanish.com/store-home/</code> At the moment they are at the bottom of my htaccess file, below the usual Wordpress rewrite rules: <code># BEGIN WordPress <ifmodulemod_rewrite.c>RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] # END WordPress</ifmodulemod_rewrite.c></code> So they are below all that. Above my WP rewrite rules I have a number of other rules from plugins (caching, ssl). Are my 301's OK where they are at the very bottom of that file? They are working, and redircting pages correctly. Should they be somewhere else? Many thanks for any help. Thanks for any help.

I understand the # will comment out a line, does this mean the sitemap would

When doing internal linking back to your home/index file what is the best coding course of action?
When doing internal linking back to your home/index page is it best to set the code as linked to "www.thedomain.com" or "www.thedomain.com/" or just "/" - I'm attempting some canonicalization and our programmer is concerned about linking to just the URL as he's saying it's going to be viewed as an external source. We have www redirects in place that come back to just www.thedomain.com and a redirect to send the www.thedomain.com/index.php back to just www.thedomain.com . Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Robots.txt file getting a 500 error - is this a problem?
Hello all! While doing some routine health checks on a few of our client sites, I spotted that a new client of ours - who's website was not designed built by us - is returning a 500 internal server error when I try to look at the robots.txt file. As we don't host / maintain their site, I would have to go through their head office to get this changed, which isn't a problem but I just wanted to check whether this error will actually be having a negative effect on their site / whether there's a benefit to getting this changed? Thanks in advance!
