How do website owners gain from facebook scams like this?
-
I've noticed two things that are going wild on Facebook this week:
and
In the first scenario, you supposedly just click share and they'll send you a $25 Tim Horton's gift card. (For those who don't know Tim's it is a very popular coffee shop in Canada). There's no way this is happening...they claim to have something like 5000 cards to give away.
In the second one they're apparently giving away 1000 ipods.
Yeah...OK.
So, they're obviously scams that are just trying to get a few zillion facebook shares. But why?

Thanks Sha, but I still don't get it. What's the benefit of having ten thousand social mentions on a domain that will never get used for anything else? Or do they eventually build something else on that domain and then create a backlink to one of their sites?
-
The reason is fairly obvious...gaming search engines with social mentions.
This will never go away because there will always be masses of people out there who will think "what have I got to lose?". People recognize that if it's a scam all they lost was a click and if it isn't they'll get something for nothing.
The general public has no idea that a share is "worth" anything for a website and values a click at zero.
Sucks to be them if someone sees it and decides to let the engines know what is going on though eh?

Yeah I see a tonne of this stuff but to be honest I just always use my better judgement and assume it as a scam, closing the window. However, you're quite right... not all web users are used to seeing this stuff and having that reaction, therefore there is bound to be some people that through no fault of their own are naive enough to fall for the scam and end up getting screwed over in some way or another.
I guess there must be something in it for the people who do it though, or they wouldn't continue doing it... sort of like the emails I get from Nigeria asking for my bank details... some people must give them or they'd have stopped by now. Such a shame, but in time with the younger generations being so internet savi I assume it'll die out, or at least I hope so.

Does Facebook Messages count as a social signal factor?
Hi, We know that social signals are usually referred to as a webpage's collective likes, comments or shares. But what about the Facebook messages generated from the messenger plugin on a web page? Especially on a business page, if one business page receives hundreds of Facebook messages through a landing page or blog page, does that count as social shares? And how effective is social signals are for a website in 2020? Although social engagement is always good for any website, my question is, how logical is it to purchase "social signal gigs" from konker or Fiverr or other gig markets? We run a social media marketing company in Australia, our website: https://www.playchat.com.au and we get a lot of messages every day through the messenger add on from our home page. Will that make any difference whatsoever? Looking forward to hearing from you. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Can we create regional pages on Facebook?
Hi, Our business spans across many countries and in order to maintain brand consistency, we were contemplating to create regional fan pages on Facebook. The structure would be like parent-child relation i.e. one main page and other regional pages. Is it possible? We searched for it but could't find something concrete except that in 2012 Facebook was testing similar concept. Regards

Opinions on offering an incentive/discount for Facebook sharing
I often see sites offering a discount for liking their Facebook page, but very rarely do I see sites offering a discount for sharing a link or their page. What are your opinions of this, is it something that Facebook could frown upon? Are people likely to just share, get the discount and then remove the post etc?

How do you know when your on a Auth website?
Hi, How do you know when your on a Auth website? Gaining backlinks from Auth 'relevant' websites is at the top of any SEO's list but how do you know when you have found one? Generally I look at DA/PA and social following, the bigger the social lists and the more activity socially on the website the more I think they are a Auth website. So if I had something like DA/PA 60+ and lets say 5000+ twitter and facebook followers with sharing activity on the site, I would then try and gain a link. Cheers

Facebook "like" discrepancy
This is a pretty stupid question sorry, but hopefully it is easy to resolve: Both OSE and Woorank list our site as having 17 Facebook likes. The Facebook icon on the page shows 92 likes. Our Facebook Page shows 560 likes. Where is the 17 number coming from?? our page is: http://www.GoldMaxUSA.com/ Thanks, Jason

Benefits of getting inbound links to your Facebook account to go through your domain?
Hi, I was browsing a magazine recently and came across an advert that had a text of: domain.com.au/facebook When you visit this address you are automatically redirected to their Facebook account. It got me thinking, is there any benefit to this? It's the first time I've seen it and I presume they get links from outside sources to their FB account to go to domain.com.au/facebook rather than facebook.com/sitename Thanks

Facebook Like on URLs
I have a doubt regarding the facebook LIKES for URLs Case 1: By using a Facebook Like Button (for URL) on my page(s). Here people are coming to my page and giving like directly on my page. Case 2: Here i'm not using any Facebook Like plugins on page, But my page got shared on facebook pages and profiles. And people are giving likes on facebook.com for my shared links. Is this two count as different methods? Explain me please.

How much power does using keywords on Facebook and Twitter have from an SEO perspective?
Hi all, When we add a new Christmas party package onto our website I always tweet about it with a link to the party page, utilizing a tweet such as : "New Manchester Christmas parties", followed by the link. How much power (if any) does utilizing the key phrase Manchester Christmas parties have on SEO for that page? Bearing in mind the link is shortened and doesn't mention the keywords anywhere in it, they are only present in the tweet itself. Similarly, on our company Facebook page I always post a link with a title such as "check out our new Manchester Christmas parties". Does this have much SEO benefit for the page I'm directing the link to? Many thanks!!
