Which do you believe & why? Wordpress posts or pages?
-
I hear a lot of conflicting opinions regarding when to use pages over posts.
If you were using wordpress mainly as a static site and less of a blog would you use pages over posts?
Let's say it is a yacht review site. Would you set up most of the content (boat review pages) as pages or posts?
I hear some say in that case you would want to use mostly pages and use posts for news related items.
Then there are others that suggest only making the few (contact, about, privacy, terms) as pages and everything else created as posts organized into categories.
Any thoughts?
Also, is there a tool to find out if a website that is not yours is using a page or a post?
Thanks

Dan totally nailed this here. In essence, use pages for static content and posts for news, blogs etc. If your site is mostly static, use pages.
If you are coming at this from a purely 'SEO benefit' perspective then you are not going to get an SEO bump from forcing static content into posts or vice versa.

Hi
The difference to understand about pages vs posts has to do with how they are organized
- Pages are organized by nesting (into folders or levels)
- Posts are organized by categories, tags, date, authors, etc.
or another way to think of it...
- Pages are for when you want the content to be organized in a traditional format; root/sub-1/sub-2/ etc. which is more or less static or linear
- Posts are for when you want content to be organized in a dynamic format; in other words, you could access the same post multiple ways; through a tag, a category, a date, or the 'blog' page.
So, use pages when you have more or less static pages, organized in a folder type format like described above. Use posts anytime you have content that you want organized dynamically; ie blogs, news, product catalogs.
Some of the themes you can get make this more confusing than it needs to be too.
Hope it helps!

If they are timeless, i'd say go for pages. I'm not aware of any tools that show this..posts usually have a date, whereas pages don't, but it's not 100% as it depends on the template.

Google Not Picking Up Posts
I am trying to work out why from March 4th Google is not seeing my posts. Our google impressions have dropped from 8,000 to 40. If you put in the full article name with speach marks it does not find it, and instead shows the home page in google. We have not had any warnings. We did have work done on our site but nothing else i could think of to cause this. Can anyone let me know what may have caused this. All articles are original

Page Rank Flow
I wonder if someone can help me understand clearly page rank flow. If we have a website with a Home page, Services, About and Contact as a very basic website and the page rank will flow to each of those pages from the Home page (i'm not including internal linking between pages or anchor text from the home page content - this is a question purely about home page flow via the main navigation). If the Services page had 3 drop down pages. Would the home page rank also flow to each of these or is it going to the Services page which then distributes it to the three drop down. So instead of Home page rank flowing to 3 pages 33% each - it is flowing to 6 pages 16.6% each. Or is it flowing to 3 pages - 33.3% then the Services pages get a third of 33.3% ->10.1% I know this is simplifying it all a great deal- but it is the basic concept I am trying to grasp on this simple example. Thanks

Our Infographic titled "What Is Coaching" was officially launched 5 weeks ago. http://whatiscoaching.erickson.edu/ We set up campaigns in Moz & Google Analytics to track its performance. Moz is reporting No organic traffic and is only crawling 2 of the 16 pages we created. (see first and third attachments) Google Analytics is seeing hundreds of some very strange random pages (see second attachment) Both campaigns are tracking the url above. We have no idea where we've gone wrong. Please help!! 16_pages_seen_in_wordpress.png how_google_analytics_sees_pages.png what_moz_sees.png

SEO Mox reporting all pages & titles as duplicate, but this is not the case.
HI, I am confused . This week SEOMoz is reporting that all my pages and pages titles are duplicate. This is not the case. I have added geo meta tags to each page - could this be causing the duplicate page content condition? I have no theory about the title duplicate condition. I have uploaded pdfs of these seomoz reports here: http://www.2shared.com/document/JAgS2Ni9/Issue_-Duplicate_Page_Content.html http://www.2shared.com/document/gyXcMsoP/Issue-Duplicate_Page_Title-.html Help please. thanks.

132 pages reported as having Duplicate Page Content but I'm not sure where to go to fix the problems?
I am seeing “Duplicate Page Content” coming up in our
Technical SEO | | danatanseo
reports on SEOMOZ.org Here’s an example: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/williams-sound-ppa-r35-e http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/aphex-230-master-voice-channel-processor http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/AT-AE4100.prod These three pages are for completely unrelated products.
They are returning “200” status codes, but are being identified as having
duplicate page content. It appears these are all going to the home page, but it’s
an odd version of the home page because there’s no title. I would understand if these pages 301-redirected to the home page if they were obsolete products, but it's not a 301-redirect. The referring page is
listed as: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/category/cd-duplicators None of the 3 links in question appear anywhere on that page. It's puzzling. We have 132 of these. Can anyone help me figure out
why this is happening and how best to fix it? Thanks!0 -
