Yes, I we have a extensive robot txt file but I agree a canonical tag would be best. Pointing to one page and adding content down the road would be my best bet.
-
Thats true. Ccanonical tags would be great too in this case.
-
robots will not stop people linking to the file, and SE's can get to them that way.
I would simply use a canonical tag here, this is what they are for.
Removing pages may lower overall page rank of a site. you should remove pages as a last resort.

lol...me again, if not then have a read through this great article http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=156449
Do it the google way
Hope that this answers your question and curious to see if any others have other suggestions.

One way of stopping this from being indexed and caught as duplicate contentn is to control your robots.txt and stop the search engines from crawling thos pages.
This is the simplest and best way, seeing that those pop-ups arent doing your seo any good in anycase:-)
Are you familiar with robots.txt?

Copy partial content to other pages ?
One of our clients looking to redesign their website since we're redesigning the whole website we thought it would be good idea to separate services into individual pages so every service will have it's own page (currently there is 1 page that describes all of the services). what we're planing to do is to write unique content for each service page (about 300-400 keywords), but we also want to use some of the existing content which is kind of explains the process of provided services. so here i need your help! what would be the best practice to use same part of existing content on every service page without getting penalized for duplicated content? here is how we want to structure the page with h1 and h2 <main> Service name (same as page title) Subline new and unique content about 300-400 keywords Part of old content which is going to be placed on every service page </main> any help would be much appreciated!

Will changing product from Grouped to Simple on my magento category page affect my SEO?
Hi all, A category page on my site http://www.porcelainsuperstore.co.uk/wood-effect.html currently ranks number 3 on Google for the keyword "Wood Effect Tiles" We're currently reorganising some of our product and I would like to know if this is going to affect the SEO and ranking for the above page and keyword. The majority of products on that page are magento grouped products. I would like to change the page so that it displays only the different constituent simple products rather than the grouped products on the category page. My question is, will this have any impact on SEO? I intend on leaving all other data on the category page the same - so the metadata and the description/title etc. Any help/comments would be much appreciated! Ben

Unique content but exactly the same graphical layout - a problem?
Hello, I have a coaching website at www.bobweikel.com I want to make a second coaching website with the same exact wordpress theme, totally identical except a slightly different logo image. Everything the same. The only difference is that all the content will be unique on the new site. Does it matter to Google that the graphics are absolutely identical? I assume it's fine, I just am making sure.

How to make sure category pages rank higher than product pages?
Hi, This question is E-Commerce related. We have product categories dividing products by color. Let's say we have the category 'blue toy cars' and a product called 'blue toy car racer', both of these could rank for the keyword 'blue toy car'. How do we make sure the category 'blue toy cars' ranks above the product 'blue toy car racer'? Or is the category page automatically ranked higher because of the higher page authority of that page? Does on page links have an effect on SERP rankings with PANDA
I have been doing some competitive analysis basing my company on others and have noticed a pattern. Very high ranking sites seem to have limited the internal and external on page links on their subdomains to under 100. my site has a lot of links but all are relevant and lead to unique content. I am interested to know if anyone else has noticed this pattern in changes in the SERP results. bIs google now penalizing pages with to many on site nav links? And if a full site restructure is needed to allow google to index and rank these pages or if a it is a non issue and does not need to be addressed. Panda confuses me!!!!! HELP!

Using "#" anchors to display different content
If I have a page that has an area on the page that acts like a widget and has three different tabs. These tabs provide 3 different types of information relevant to the page subject matter. By default when someone goes to the page one of the tabs is showing but you have to click on the others to see the info on them. Is it OK to use domain.com/topic#TAB1, domain.com/topic#TAB2, domain.com/topic#TAB3 to create shortcut links so that people can land on the page and have that predetermined tab showing. I'm wondering what search engines might think. Essentially all the content of all three tabs is there for people to see but they'd have to click to see the other tabs. I don't consider the content to be hidden. But I'd like to hear people's thoughts.
