Optimizing YP.com and Yelp listings for local business
-
I have a fairly new business and I have been citation building over the past year. I noticed that when I perform a search for my keyword and city that YP.com and Yelp show up high on Google SERPS. I have a listing on both of these directories but my listing is unfortunately buried.
I have optimized my listings on these sites to the best of my ability. I have not upgraded to paid advertising on either. It's expensive and I here mixed reviews on the ROI.
I will list both profiles:

Can anyone offer any advice on optimizing or boosting these listings so I turn up in the first 3-5 instead of 20 or lower?
Thank you

Hi Again,
Thanks for clarifying your question. Regarding Yelp, I recommend you read Phil Rozek's recent piece:
http://www.localvisibilitysystem.com/2012/08/23/yelp-ranking-factors/
And don't miss the comments section on it. Really good discussion there.
As for YP.com and any other IYP, it's a matter of buying your way to the top.
Hope this helps!

I would like to make the listing appear higher within YP.com and Yelp if possible. I've optimized it with images and details and so forth but my listings are not ranked high. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

How does a business have a link back where I can't see the anchor text?
So, I'm running competitor websites through Open Site Explorer and following the link from Moz to where their link is coming from. It has the anchor text 'Christmas Gifts'. When I go to that page there is no mention of this anchor text. No mention of that persons website. No display ad's that could be providing that link. How is this link pointing to their page?

Quick question on meetup.com links
I've been using open site explorer to assess my competitors inbound links. I filtered for "link equity" and returned these results. I noticed a link from meetup.com and investigated it further (a link on this page). As far as open site explorer is concerned this link is passing some value. That said, I noticed the link was actually posted as a comment on the meetup page. When I looked at the source it looked like this: [http://www.meetup.com/sfruby/members/82741532/](<a class=)" class="mem-photo-background-45 square-35 memberinfo-widget" data-memberid="82741532" title="Aleksandr Melentiev" style="display: block; background-image: url(http://img1.meetupstatic.com/501554713870081192606960/img/nobody_50.png);" data-src="http://img1.meetupstatic.com/501554713870081192606960/img/nobody_50.png">![](<a class=)http://img1.meetupstatic.com/6297749526911517292/img/blank.gif" alt="Aleksandr Melentiev" /> [http://www.meetup.com/sfruby/members/82741532/](<a class=)" class="memberinfo-widget" data-memberid="82741532" title="Aleksandr Melentiev">Aleksandr Melentiev Hi. I am the creator of a similar tool - [http://bootcamper.io](<a class=)" title="http://bootcamper.io" target="_blank" class="linkified">http://bootcamper.io. Will do my best to attend this as well. Cheers. <a class="j-like-list tooltip-widget" data-key="reply-32914742-likes">1</a> · February 28 I don't see a nofollow attribute above but I do see the "linkified" class. Am I correct in assuming that this link is probably not passing value? Secondly, can meetup.com descriptions (as opposed to comments) contain follow links? Thanks in advance for your time in answering my noob question!

Do I have to be worried about listing my events on third-party sites with the same content?
Hello everyone, We run classes and we just released our 2014 schedule. I am thinking of manually posting each class on the various event sites on the web (zvents, eventbrite, yelp, etc.) Should I worry about any sort of penalty if the content of these events are exactly the same? Also, some allow links within the description, my plan was to have 1-3 links going back to my product page with varying anchor text. Is there anything I should worry about with this plan? Thanks in advance for any help

First Post! Local Electrician Site.
I have a site for a local electrician that I just can't seem to get to move up the SERPS. I've tried everything form on-page optimization to local link building but It seems to always hover around position 11-17 for my keyword 'electricians grimsby' - which is not very competitive. Any advice would be invaluable.

Links from **searchengines.com
Looking at the list of linking domains in Webmaster Tools I have come across 36 from domains similar to **searchengines.com or .net, where ** is a number. They are all duplicates and get their data from DMOZ. I'm cleaning up the link profile and my question is should I be concerned to get these cleaned up especially as I have some more serious links to clean out and possibly need to use disavow? Actually if I need them removed and the sites state I have to go through DMOZ to do so is that good enough for Google to understand that I can't really manually remove these links and I can proceed to disavow them?

Wordpress & On-Page Optimization
Seomoz, Our current SEO provider built a squeeze page using Wordpress. http://www.buddyrents.com/rent-to-own-furniture/spring-hill-34608/ The page has minimal links and the one drop-down menu links to other pages that look exactly the same with the exception of the page name and Google map. Since the pages were built a 2 years ago there have been zero copy changes or code changes until a few weeks ago, yet the provider maintains that there is a maintenance charge to make sure the pages function correctly and are easily read by Google. This sounds like a made up charge. Wordpress pages like these should be pretty stable and search friendly. Am I missing something? Is this common to charge for SEO, On-page SEO and Maintenance for pages that have not changed and only rank if you actually enter the long-tail keywords that match the page title? They also don't create a lot of traffic, but the provider says they are essential to our online footprint. The pages have a PA of 1 and the below on-page links (the exact same links for all 120 pages) | Internal Followed Links | 23 |

Where to link to? .com or extension
Hi everyone. Just a quick question as its really confusing me. When link building it appears I have been linking unknowingly it seems to 2 different web address's http://www.chamonixfirst.com and http://www.chamonixfirst.com/en/home/ I'm very new to this but if you look at the link info for these two different address they have different scores. Have i just halved all the link building i have done so far? When you search for us on the net its the .com site that appears but the .com/en/home/ has better trust etc. So i guess the question is, for future linking which address should we be linking to ? .com or .com/en/home/ Many thanks Phil
