How to track click on phone number on mobile device in GA as a goal?
-
Hi,
I work with a lot of physicians and one of the things I'd like to do is add a goal in GA so we can try to track how many visitors are clicking the phone # to call the office from smartphones.
-
Would doing this be as straight-forward as adding a the standard javascript click text that I'd add for an external link?
-
And Is there a way to make a goal only "count" if the user-agent is a smartphone? Because if I attach the JS to the phone #, it's going to be in all of the HTML regardless of which device is used. Unless of course, I mess with the CSS to only make the javascript code appear on certain stylesheets.
Thank you!

Hopefully too not many people will click that link on the desktop version... But there's always some silly user who is the exception.
Good Luck!

Yeah you know that's a good question. This is a responsive site I'm gathering (good on ya!) so I see the dilemma.
But yes I believe in the Advanced Segment you can parse events triggered via mobile devices.
Also you should be able to build a custom report which should allow you to filter by OS which would even allow you to break down the data by iOS, Android, Windows Phone, etc.
-
Thanks you that's perfect.
And then I guess I'd just filter out smartphone-only for accurate data?
-
-
Well I have the phone number on the responsive site (for example) as HTML text like this
123-456-7890
Can I track this as an event as you suggest?
I see this code below from the link, but it looks like I need to have the phone # as a link....
Other than the ability to add GA code, is this:
123-456-7890
the same as this ### 1-847-555-5555
Thank you !

Agree with Jesse, using GA Event Tracking will help you track clicks on the mobile button. Within GA, you can slice and dice the information a few ways to see mobile users exclusively.
One option is to use the "Advanced Segments" feature to view "Mobile Traffic" and then drill down via the Content > Events > Top Events report.
-
Well I'm assuming you have a "Click to Call" button setup meaning you have a separate mobile site?
If so, I would simply add a Google analytics event to said button on your mobile site and label it something like "mobile-call" or whatever. Are you familiar with Event Tracking? If not, go here - https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/eventTrackerGuide

Analytics Tracking in China
I am setting up a Chinese domain and I was wondering if anyone has experience with using Google Analytics for tracking in the country and if it really works or if Baidu is the better solution for the website. The website will be hosted in the US so I don't know if that makes any difference with getting around "The Great Firewall". I would prefer to us GA if possible because I am extremely familiar with the platform but I am more concerned with getting accurate tracking data for the site. Thank you in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated. Brooke

Google Analytics goals by source report?
Hello everybody. Is there way in Google analytics to create report on what goals have been completed per each source? Example: Lets say I have 3 goals: Subscription, Purchase, Quote. How can I get report, saying something like this: google / organic - Subscription - 5 conversions
Reporting & Analytics | | DmitriiK
Purchase - 3 conversions
Quote - 10 conversions and so on. P.S. Basically, I want the reverse of standard Google Analytics goal completions report, where you can click on goal and see which sources/mediums completions came from. I'd like to do the opposite - "click" on source/medium and see which goals have been completed. Thanks0 -
Campaign Tracking URLs and the Impact on SEO
Hi Guys, I am setting up tracking for a couple of offline campaigns in Analytics and would just like to know if this will cause issues. The situation is below: Two URLs Ranking Well Organically: www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-b URLs Setup for the Purpose of Offline Campaigns www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 www.domain.co.uk/campaign2 Plan to Track this in Analytics www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a_&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test1&utm_campaign=test1_ www.domain.co.uk/campaign2 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test2&utm_campaign=test1__ So the idea is that the user gets a nice simple URL to input from the off-line media (www.domain.co.uk/campaign1). This then redirects to one of the pages thats performing well organically (www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a) but with the relevant tracking (www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test1&utm_campaign=test1). The only way that the tracking URL can be accessed by the user is if the off-line media URL is entered. My main concern here is how Google will treat this. Obviously I don't want to cause issues with the two URLs that are ranking well organically. Would having a version of exactly the same URL, just with tracking do so? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

GA not recording visitors PART 2
Further to my question yesterday where all data for Wednesday 31st July 2013 was not showing - the data did reappear yesterday afternoon. But today, all data for yesterday seems odd - across all my projects visitor numbers appear to be around 40% down on the norm. Sales were normal, so I wonder if this is another glitch - anyone else seeing strange stats in GA for yesterday?

How to track and verify 301 redirects from 22 old websites to a new one?
Me and my team have just finished a website which will replace 22 old ones (6 main domains and 16 sub-domains, 19 in wordpress and 3 in Joomla). This means more than 20,000 links that we're trying to redirect with the most granularity possible. But we're experiencing a lot of conflicts because of the quantity and variety of links and the interference of Wordpress. And I'm having trouble finding which links are working and which aren't. I have a URL list in a plain .txt file for every website, is there a tool that can check these links for me? I've tested many wordpress plugins, but I didn't find a good one. Thanks!

Is there any way to see how one my keywords ranked historically before I started tracking it?
Hello there! I'm in need of some historical data on some keywords as they relate to my site. Basically, I'd like to track which events have had the most impact on moving me through the rankings, but I wasn't using Moz at the time I had made some changes to my website... Is there any way to see how I ranked for a particular keyword at a given point in time? Thanks! Gene
