Local search optimization for national product?
-
Hi all,
My company sells a direct-to-consumer product nationwide. We have competitors that sell through local distributors. Therefore, many customers think that this is a product that must be bought locally.
Because so many people search for this product locally, we want to be able to rank for local searches. But, because we sell nationwide, we don't have localized content.
We have a competitor that created a page for each state which lists every zip code and city name in the state, but that seems pretty labor intensive (and not all that effective). Any ideas on how to address this problem would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi! I'm going through older questions in the Q&A system, and wondering if you could give us an update on how you tackled this problem, and any lessons you can share with us. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm definitely going to investigate local domains for our largest geographic areas.

Thanks, Pashmina, this is really great feedback! I'm definitely going to do the first two ASAP, and investigate the others. Thanks again!

Creating separate websites is time consuming but as per our experience it was worth it. We had the client who wanted to open two new locations in two other cities.
1. We tried to add other city location to the contact page and for every location listing in google maps added same URL for our main website. Result was the website instantly lost the ranking for first and main city it went from 6 to 20. It took a lot of time to recover.
2. The we decided to buy separate domain for each of the locations and from main page just linked to other city pages. The link was from same industry (which is great) and it didn't hurt main website because we don't have there any information with addresses in other cities. Of course had to put new urls to google maps. Both new websites did grow quite quickly. Yes it was time consuming.
Of course it is up-to you to decide, just thought that it would be good to share our story.

I've faced a similar issue before. His company served clients nationally, but many people searched for his services locally, typing "xxxxx california" or wherever they were located. We did several things, and depending on your budget you may consider some or all of these:
- PPC campaigns targeted to local/regional keyword searches. Ad copy that gave highest conversions used words like "nationwide" or "largest provider"
- Consistently wrote and published blog posts and articles on the difference between local and national provider and why the national provider had advantages
- Wrote and published articles targeting regional or state keywords with the highest searches, and explained how the national company knew that area better than any local provider.
- Leased and employed some exact match keyword domain for 302 redirects. And also bought and developed some exact match keyword domains as lead generation sites.
Of all of the above, PPC will give you instant results. And depending on your product and the CPL you want to target, it can be very successful.

Product Videos and SEO
We sell high end products and we try to educate the consumer as much as possible. Since the attention span is short, we try and break up the features/functions into 5-6 videos. We post everything to Youtube and we have been adding it to our blog as well. I am currently tasked with rebuilding our blog from the ground up. This means getting rid of all the thin content, updating content, etc. We have many videos up there and Just trying to figure out what the best practice should be. The blog is wordpress based and I have the videos now set up in a category structure. Should I just add each video as a video custom post type? Should I have each video posted with a transcript? Or should I post each video with sub background text of the video? We have about 120 videos in all and adding more, but making them longer to reduce the amount of videos per product going forward. Thank you.

Question on following schema for local
Hello I built out a blog for a client and used Yoast Local SEO plugin for WordPress. Here is one of the pages generated for a physical location for the business. http://water-notes.generalplumbingsupply.com/?wpseo_locations=sonora-ca My client who manages a website for the same business built out a locations page and insists that their pages rank better for local search. I think the pages are spammy. Individual location page for the website managed by my client: http://www.generalplumbingsupply.com/American-Canyon-CA-v1.HTML Multiple locations page: http://www.generalplumbingsupply.com/Locations.HTML What page should we be using? Thank you for your help.

Local Search Clean up Done. Now Best Way to Index?
I have spent hours doing some local search clean up and have a list of all the URLs to index, about 75. Is there a place I can dump these to get them all indexed quickly or do I have to wait for the hand of Google to come down and bless me with indexing. I don't want to dump all these to Google +, Facebook, or Twitter; that would just be wrong. Any ideas for fast indexing. I want them to all get indexed before the business address changes in a couple years 🙂

How likely it is to rank both locally and organically
I think the question summarizes it pretty well. Did anybody experienced this, to rank for one or multiple keywords in both local and organic search results?

Ranking Differences for Google+ Local vs. Places Listings
I'm seeing some odd behavior with Google+ Local and Google Places listings for clients. I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing it... Here's the situation: We've recently bought on 4 new clients that all have duplicate listing issues, and, weirdly, all have both places and a Google+ local created listings. For three of those four, the Google+ local listing is outranking the Places account for a brand name search (e.g. Dr. John Doe). Weirdly, in one instance, the Google+ local account that is outranking the Places page is named in a less accurate fashion. e.g searching for "Dr. John Doe" the rankings look like this... A) John Doe Plastic Surgery, P.C. - Dr. John Doe B) Dr. John Doe, MD Anyone else seeing this sort of behavior? How are you creating local listings for clients these days - via the places dashboard, or Google+ Local?

Has Anyone Used CBS Local Pages?
CBS has a service that they offer to their advertisers called CBS Local Pages. Has anyone used this? It's about $1500 a month and basically they send "business data" to local listing platforms, this is similar to UBL and LocalEZE it seems. One of my associates subscribed to this and they're unsure of the value, they are paying $1500/mo for something that can be achieved with $125/year with localeze. Has anyone used this?

Do search enginges prefer pages with mobile websites on the mobile phone?
Let me explain what I want to know: Somebody searches e.g. for a hotel on his mobile phone. Do the search engines rank websites with special mobile pages better than others? I am not considering the local factor here (let's say there are hotels nearby with or without mobile websites). If not, is there a trend for that? Does anyone have some datas / examples / experience about that?
