Will it help/hinder our local seo by including our local adress on multiple pages?
-
We have a large website that targets the whole UK. It has landing pages for every town in the UK. For the towns that this particular business has a bricks and mortar hq, we have set up a local/places page.
We then added the corresponding places adress to the appropriate town page on the website. This is just a handful compared to the 3,000,000 towns our site aims to rank for.
Question: Would it help or hinder our SEO efforts to add the local addresses to other town pages in close proximity to the original?
For instance say we have a places address for croydon in London. Would it hurt to add this address to pages that target towns near croydon, such as Mitcham.
All opinions greatly appreciated. Cheers!

So glad to be of help Silkstream, and that's good that you're working hard to remedy the duplicate content issue. Sounds like a really big project. Good luck with all the steps!
-
Yes Miriam, that is exactly what i meant, thank you for clarifying and many thanks for your response, it echo's my own gut feelings towards "clouding" the authority of the focus target pages, which are of course obviously where we have the bricks and motar buildings.I really like your idea of adding a CTA to those other "nearby town" pages that funnels users and hopefully a little more "authority" towards those areas. A great suggestion.
Duplicate content was a major issue, But we've been working on making these pages as unique and relevant as possible to each individual area by adding relevevant copy about the business and industry in that area. It's been a long slog, as this site was (i believe) hit quite badly with Panda last october, but we're doing everything recommended to improve its user experience.
Thanks again for your advice Miriam, much appreciated.

Hi SilkStream,
I want to be sure I'm correctly understanding what you've described. Does this check out?
-
You've got a unique website page for every city in the UK
-
You only have physical locations in some of these cities
-
You have published the complete NAP (name, address, phone) of the business on these city landing pages, reflecting your physical locations
-
You are now wondering if it would be okay to add the NAP of physical locations to the pages for neighboring cities where you have no physical location.
Yes? If so, then here's what I think:
No, I would not recommend this. Here's why: right now, you are telling Google, "This Google+ Local page corresponds to this city landing page where we have a physical office. See, the NAP matches. This is the authoritative page on our website for our physical office in City A."
Now, if you start putting City A's NAP on the non-physical location pages for neighboring cities B, C, D and E, you are making Google say, "Wait, I thought this phone number went with City A. But it seems to have something to do with cities B, D, D and E. Same with the address. Where's the authoritative signal?"
In other words, I think the practice you're considering could actually cloud the clarity of the signal you are sending to Google about your NAP.
Instead of taking this route, I would be more inclined to put calls-to-action on the non-physical location pages and link them to the nearby physical office pages. In other words, I would put a CTA on the pages for non-physical location cities B, C, D and E stating, "Come see us in nearby City A," This CTA would link to the City A page and that's where your users (and the bots) could find your complete City A NAP.
This would be how I would handle this. And, of course, I would be sure that you've got unique content on all of these pages. Hope these ideas help!

Is getting views to an infographic through Imgur beneficial to SEO?
I'm considering posting infographics to Imgur in addition to hosting them on my site in an effort to leverage Reddit a bit more this year. My concern is that, if all goes well, we'll get a ton of views through Reddit to Imgur, maybe a couple clickthroughs to the site, and links to (probably) the Imgur page. I don't see that Imgur gives your profile a followed link, so how would any of this help SEO. I assume it would, because respected guys like John Dougherty espouse the benefits of Reddit, but I can't see how and I need to justify the effort to my department head.

Google instantly suspends Google+ local listing of brand new company
I just tried to create a Google+ listing for a client. It's a brand new company. As soon as I submit the listing, I get an error message: "Google has suspended your page due to quality issues." There is no content on the listing, no website, etc. Just their NAP. All I can guess is their business address or phone number is on a blacklist due to some previous tenant/owner. Does Google keep a blacklist of addresses and/or phone numbers? Any other ideas?

Thoughts on Google's New NAP Dispaly on Google+ Local
Hi, Do you think ACTION needs to happen based on Google's new NAP formatting change? They are changing Suite or STE to #. So for example 265 Racine Dr #100 Wilmington, NC 28403 Even if you enter in Suite they change it to pound. I am wondering the thoughts of the community of the following: 1. Do you think Google knows that STE, Suite, and # are all the same 2. Do you feel that we need to change ALL online local business listings and our website to match this change. 3. Here is the letter from Google on the matter FROM GOOGLE: Thanks for informing us about your address appearing differently on your local Google+ page than it does on your dashboard. After looking further, we've determined that 240 Stockton St #300 San Francisco, CA 94108 is an appropriate way for your listing to be displayed. Note that the address on your page might be different from what you've input into your dashboard. Our processes might alter user-input addresses to make them more standardized and easier for users to access. Thanks for understanding. Best, Nathan

How ( and in fact should we try and merge). The old Places page has a review the newly create Business Page does not but is better optimized. Any help would be gratefully received as my head is spinning/ PS based in New Zealand

How do you handle local SEO when a business has had multiple names?
Hi, Here is a quite simple question... that comes from a real life example. When a local business, with one phone number and one business location, has been promoting itself with up to 4 different names over the years. How do you handle local SEO? Do you try to update all pages (and directories) on the Web to the new name? Do you keep the existing records as they are and find some ways to show Google - and people - that those are all the same business? Thanks, Adrien O'Leary

Use Google Places or Google +Local?
Hello everyone, My name is Zachary Russell, and I run a Philadelphia based WordPress Development and SEO firm, ProTech Internet Group. I have been doing work lately, and have been neglecting the fact that my own site needs work, I have now changed that. I have done a complete redesign and started repurposting content to have a well-rounded content strategy that can appeal the the widest possible audience. My issue I'm having now is this: I have both a Google Places page and a Google +Local page for my business , Obviously duplicate listings are a problem, but I don't know which one to get rid of. They both have 0 reviews and limited +1s, I just don't know which one I should delete, and which one I should push to get more reviews moving forward. Also, moving forward, would it make sense for me to have a Google +Business and a Google +Local page?I don't know if this would cause any conflicts either. Thanks for your help and have a happy new year! Zach Russell President, ProTech Internet Group

Would 2 Google Places locations help my Google Places ranking?
Hi. Our agency office is located in a "bad" zip code relevant to active businesses who would need our agency services. In a nutshell, we get really bad inquiries who can never afford our services...and it's coming directly from the Google geolocation function. We plan to relocate our offices within 1 year. Would it help us in Google Places if we created a "new" physical office location to cover up the "bad" one we are currently in? We could use a paid location like a UPS Mail Center physical address that is located within a more desiring zip code. Thanks for any input. Jay

How far away does your Google Local Listing Show up - and how to improve.
How does google decide if a listing from one city shows up in another? When I do a search for a lawyer in my city my competition from another town shows up - but I don't show up when I search their town. Only 3 listings show up for both searches - so it's not necessarily a rank thing. Any ideas on improving the distance your listings show up for? Thanks!
