Hotels Schema.org
-
I am looking at potentially using some Schema mark up on hotel listing pages. This is for an OTA where lots of hotels from all over the world are available for selection (think hotels.com, booking.com, agoda.com etc)
For the itemscope itemtype on say the hotel name should I be defining it as http://schema.org/hotel or http://schema.org/localbusiness
For example against the hotel name I would have:
Grand Plaza Hanoi
I assume its the former, but I was just after some 2nd opinions.
Thanks,
Ben

Their current solution seems to be something along the lines of:
***** Rating: 8.4/10 - 900 Reviews
almost forcing two different review "views" into the same listing, which seems a little dumb from a UI perspective.

Thanks again,
This is an area where Google seem a bit pants to be honest. I have seen loads of examples where a hotel might have a rating of 7 out of 10 and Google shows 5 stars in the rich snippet data.
Not exactly a great user experience right there.

Boom:
<div< span="">itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Rating">
<meta< span="">itemprop="worstRating" content = "1">
<span< span="">itemprop="ratingValue">1</span<>/
<span< span="">itemprop="bestRating">5</span<>stars</meta<></div<>See this URL for better details: http://schema.org/Review
For the overall rating, you'll want to use http://schema.org/AggregateRating which can also be done on a larger scale.
I have only seen examples of Google using 5 star reviews in their rich snippets. I have not yet seen an example of 4 or 10 star rankings used in rich snippets. Maybe they'll adopt it down the road, maybe they'll convert to 5 stars, or maybe they'll continue ignoring it. Perhaps just consider displaying the aggregate rating as a 5 star scale, and the rest as 10?

Thanks Kane - looks like I am on the right track then. The other area I am struggling on is the mark up around reviews / star ratings.
i.e., what happens if your star ratings aren't out of 5? Google seems to make a mess of the display. I.e., I can find a hotel with a rating of 7/10 where Google will show it as 5 star in the results set.
So do I try and force the adoption of using a scale from 1-5 or is it possible to use schema mark up on a 1-10 scale?

Yup, take a look at the microdata generator for restaurants (none built for hotels yet that I have seen):
http://www.microdatagenerator.com/restaurant-schema
That gives you a good comparison for how the hotel format should look. Here's an example implementation for a restaurant:

Correct use of schema for online store and physical stores
I have been getting conflicting advice on the best way to implement schema for the following scenario. There is a central e-commerce store that is registered to it's own unique address which is "head office". There are a few physical shops each of which has their own location and address. Each shop has its own landing page within /our-stores/. So each page on the website has the Organisation schema for the central 'organisation', something like: Then on each physical store landing page is something like the following as well as the Organisation schema: Is this correct? If it is should I extend LocalBusiness with store URL and sameAs for GMB listing and maybe Companies House registration? It's also been suggested that we should use LocalBusiness for the head office of the company, then Departmentwith the typeStore. But i'm not sure on that?

What is the optimum schema for a Website and how important is it really is for SEO?
Hey everyone,
Technical SEO | | artdivision
As you all probably has seen Google has changed their structure testing tool and alongside that has also changed what is considered as valid and not valid. I have been struggling with this question for quite a while now where opinions are really split. **1. How important is Schema for SEO? **
2. How far should you go Schema'ing your website pages? From the one hand i can see how it can be easier for a BOT to read a code that has proper "road signs" (our schemas markups), on the other hands, Google is already extremely clever is working out what is the header, sidebar or footer as well as review and or a blog posts (especially for those of us who use Wordpress. Would love to know if someone has seen a "Like to Like" show case with schemas and/or have some factual information regarding what should or shouldn't be done when it comes ot Schema. Dan. x1aw0 -
Author schema and Wordpress Author Page
Hi everyone, Has anyone tried using the author schema on their Wordpress author page or on their G+ profile or on their Moz profile? Would it be a good idea to always use it where you publish? I publish on several blogs Thanks Carla example: Use it here - http://www.posicionamientowebenbuscadores.com/blog/author/carla/ http://moz.com/community/users/392216 It seems like I would be over doing it.

Could schema.org and GoodRelations be bad for SEO?
One of my clients is going through a redesign and I am considering implementing schema.org and GoodRelations as it is an e-commerce website. The site sells cutting edge products and competes with some of the top tech blogs for rankings on the first page. Essentially, this means that e-commerce product listings are competing with news stories. It is becoming more and more difficult to rank as Google puts more emphasis on news over products in the serps, especially prior to a product release. My concern is that in implementing schema.org and GoodRelations, detailing to seach engines that this is in-fact a product page and not news could harm rankings. What opinions do others have on this?

Schema markup for video vs. Authorship: How will the SERP look?
All, Would love to hear from the community on the issue of 2 rich snippets appearing on the same page, will one take precedence in the SERP? For example, I am working with a client who has authorship markup on his homepage, we are going to add to that schema markup for an introductory video. Will the video snippet or authorship snippet display? Will both display?
