Trading longer load time for greater link potential
-
How do you approach balancing load time with making a page linkworthy?
For example, if you create a page with a lot of rich media like infographics, images, videos, and audio, this will probably increase page load time but it will be more likely to earn links.
-
I put everything that I have into the page.
Six nice photos, two videos, a couple of charts and 3000 words - plus ads.
Be sure that you optimize the photos and have a good server with caching.

Like Sean said, people have no patience on the web. Load time is important across the board for users _and _search...not just search. Something that takes forever to load probably won't be link worthy (or share worthy) as a result and even if you do get links or share, it may not rank as well either because of the slow load.
You probably should rethink your content or design and strip it down to the basics. But also do whatever you can to speed up a feature-rich page. With all the services available (most for free or low cost), there are lots of ways to speed up your pages.
If it is really image heavy, something like jQuery lazy load (http://www.appelsiini.net/projects/lazyload) is awesome. If you are using a lot of jQuery or other dynamic libraries, pull in the content from Google's libraries (https://developers.google.com/speed/libraries/devguide) to take advantage of caching. If you have a lot of custom JS, minify it (http://www.minifyjs.com/javascript-compressor/). Also, I've had luck with Cloudflare (http://cloudflare.com) as well in speeding up really feature-rich pages.
Hope that helps.

Would rethink the design of the page. Are there any better ways to design the page? Could you leverage lightbox? Screenshot the videos and have them target=blank? Granted not every solution is ideal but if you must cram a ton of things on a page that will cause insane load time you also have to consider the fact of if it is a long time period, it will tick people off and thus not be as link worthy as you may think.
People on the internet have practically 0 patience...just remember that when coming up with your plan.

How do you find bad links to your site?
My website has around 900 incoming links and I have a Google 50 penalty that is sitewide. I have been doing research and from what I can see is that the 50 penalty is usually associated with scetchy links. The penalty started last year. I had about 40 related domains to my main site and each had a simple one page site with a link to the main site. (I know I screwed up) I cleaned up all of those links by removing them. The single page site still exist, but they have no links and several of them still rank very well. I also had an outside SEO person that bought a few links. I came clean with Google and told them everything. I gave them all of my sites and that the SEO person had bought links. I gave them full disclosure and removed everything. I have one site that I can't get the link removed from. I have contacted them numerous times to remove the link and I get no response. I am curious if anyone has had a simular experience and how they corrected the situation. Another issue is that my site is "thin" because its an ecommerce affiliate site and full of affiliate links. I work in the costume market. I'm also afraid that I have other bad links pointing to my site. Dooes anyone know of a tool to identify bad links that Google may be penalizing me for at this time. Here is Google's latest denial of my reconsideration request. Dear site owner or webmaster of XXXXXXXXX.com. We received a request from a site owner to reconsider XXXXXXXX.com for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines. In order to preserve the quality of our search engine, pages from XXXXXXXXXX.com may not appear or may not rank as highly in Google's search results, or may otherwise be considered to be less trustworthy than sites which follow the quality guidelines. If you wish to be reconsidered again, please correct or remove all pages that are outside our quality guidelines. How to measure number of links out from a page
Following on from earlier Q, what do you all use to count links out from a page. I believe there is a bing tool which does this, though rather than a list of sites a simple number would be ideal?

Preserving Link Value
My client has an existing domain, domain A. They recently purchased and absorbed another company with their own domain, domain B. For marketing purposes company B will be rebranded as company A. They want to redirect domain B to domain A. The problem is that company B has by far the more visible domain, with 4x the number of inbound links. If I redirect domain B to domain A, what will happen to these links? I'm thinking their value will be lost.

Optimum Number of Links on Any Given Page
One of the guidelines you provide stipulates: "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page. This means that each of the pages being linked to from a given page are also affected by the number of links on the linking page. For these reasons, we recommend you include less than 100 links per page to ensure that they are all crawled, though if your pages have a high page authority, search engines will usually follow more links." As far as these 100 links are concerned, is this in reference to ALL links including outbound, internal, etc? Or is this referring to only outbound links to other sites?
