Do you pay much attention to Bing and Yahoo?
-
I'm enjoying seeing my reports filter in for my campaigns. One of the things that I am noticing is that there are many keywords that I have top ten rankings for Google.com, but 3rd or 4th page on Bing and Yahoo.
I know most traffic comes from Google, but I'm wondering if I should put some effort into optimizing for Bing and Yahoo. Any tips on how to make my site more attractive to these search engines?

I'm in the same boat as Steve, Google's got it locked down in the UK and in my experience clients aren't willing to pay for anything other than Google optimisation. However, as you say Steve, good ranking on Yahoo / Bing usually follows success on Google.
One thing I am looking into though is the Yahoo's Shopping search (Product Submit). It seems to be a largely untouched space in the UK and I'd be interested to hear if anyone's seen success with it. From my investigations so far it seems that you have to submit your feed in $s which is obviously a problem for UK merchants, however I see listings in £s. Do we have any UK experts in this field?
-
I know it's bad of me not to pay much attention to them, but I don't. I'm in the UK and so are most of our clients, and Google have an even bigger market share over here so we don't really go for anything but Google... even though I know that really we should. It's a time/resource balance though.
Having said that, I do tend to find that optimizing for Google often brings up good results in the others anyway as a bi-product, which is handy

Yes - sign up for the Bing Webmaster Tools service - similar to Google Webmaster Tools. If there are issues or problems Bing encounters that's where you'll get reports on them.
And if you are lacking regarding inbound links pointing to inner pages, you'll see gains in Google and Bing by getting some. Bing likes to see exact match anchor text links that come from other sites already ranking well in the Bing eco-system. So do some research when finding inbound link sources - to see how they're doing in Bing.

Excellent points!
My site has about 18% fewer pages indexed in Bing as compared to Google and 40% fewer in Yahoo.
I will be submitting some sitemaps tomorrow!
Are there any other suggestions for becoming more attractive in the eyes of Bing and Yahoo?

That is a great point about the xml sitemap submission. Something so simple it's worth the extra effort.

I could tell you to just wait until next month at SMX Advanced - I'm on the "Google Survival tips" panel. However that wouldn't be very helpful here now would it?
Here's the issue - 1. If you could find a way to increase site visits by 10% to 20%, and if a reasonable percentage of those were to convert into customers, would that be worth the time and effort to at least consider how to get better rankings in Bing and Yahoo?
Of course there are no hard and fast numbers that can be applied to all sites in every situation, however it's my perspective, and thus why I recommend to clients, that the ability to focus on how to improve Bing rankings not only increases potential customers from a new source, it actually improves Google rankings for deeper content.
Among several tactics, 1 that I find the most simple to check for - how many pages do you have indexed at Google, and how many are showing up in Bing? Quite often I find clients have submitted sitemap.xml files to Google but not Bing. Bing actually has a more challenging time discovering pages on a site than Google does, and this one action can sometimes boost not only the total pages Bing indexes, but in turn, increase existing indexed page rankings.
And then there's the (currently unlikely) possibility that Google collapses. Then where would you be?

Same thing here. I watch Bing and Yahoo but optimize for Google.

Bing Algo Updates?
I am of the belief it is bad to be "too" Google-centric. Many people have found that out with Panda, Penguin and Venice in recent years - all eggs in one basket and after one update you are out for the count (if you we're naughty of course). Anyway, That aside I enjoy looking at are reminding myself about Google Algo Updates using the SEOMoz Google Change Log (a bit like Gina Tripani's change log on This Week in Google, but only more Algo focused) - http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change So, my question - is there a version of Bing somewhere out there?

Massive Rank Changes in Bing/Yahoo Only - What's up w/ Rank Tracker?
I'll be honest, it's pretty shameful how little attention I give Bing and Yahoo. But something recently caught my eye - I have a client who according to rank tracker is all over the place in yahoo/bing...up 20 positions for some kw's, down 12 for others...meanwhile Google's holding steady, and Google data seems mostly accurate - with one exception of showing 46th position for an exact match branded search that they're #1 for. I know Rank Tracker has been going through some fine tuning, right? I don't manually check Yahoo/Bing - I can't imagine those #'s are accurate though. Am I right to assume it's incorrect data? Just curious, any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

Anyone using Yahoo Small Business? Not sure if SEOmoz works with YahooSB
I am not sure if SEOmoz is compatible with Yahoo Small Business. The crawl states that the title page is too long for over a hundred titles, but they are not. SEOmoz is taking the title page and the parent or catagory page and grouping together. Please only respond if you work SEO for Yahoo Small Business accounts. Would be glad to take discussion thread off line or show the SEOmoz report.

Google Inbound Links much higher than SEOMOZ
I just started here and really like everything the community and tools so far. One question. My SEOMOZ dashboard shows only one inbound link while Google Web Tools shows 300+. My site has been up for 3 months now and I'm curious about the lack of indexing. Any help, tips or feedback is greatly appreciated. http://CrossTrainingandFitness.com Robb Jarrett

Why did Domain Authority go up so much? Did you change your measurement?
Our Domain Authority has been at 42 or 43 for a couple months and it just increased to 54. Why did this happen? I would like to think that it is because of out SEO and linkbuilding work. However, I suspect something else may be involved because the 3 competitors we track also all increased between 10 to 25 points at the same time. What happened? Did you make changes in the way you score DA or is this the result of changes in what pages you crawl? Or what?

Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer?
Hi, Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer? I want to find backlinks of some unavailable pages and YSE was a great tool to deal with. But when I used tools like Open Site Explorer, ahrefs.com etc., I couldn't find one same like YSE. Because when I tried, it shows'No data available for this URL' where on YSE I found inbound links. What Alternatives Are There? thanks in advance!

Yahoo Site Explorer died. Does DA and PA Seomoz parameters have all it takes to replace YSE?
We're trying to simplify our link analysis job when acquiring a new external link. We're wondering to know if Domain Authority Seomoz parameter is all what we need to take a decision. Does DA Seomoz parameter takes into consideration 'domain age', 'alexa ranking', 'dmoz links', indexed pages on google', and 'inbound links vs outbound links'?

Bing ranking my non-www version of my site.
My site is ranking #1 on Bing for the non-www version of my homepage, but this is not showing in my ranking stats, since the site is setup in SEOMOZ as www version. Do I have to create a whole new campaign for the non-www version or is there a way to pickup these rankings?
