Sudden Site Rankings Drop
-
Good day guys,
We have been following strict SEO strategies for the past 6 months, all sites have been improving incredibly well, all except one. The site in question is http://bit.ly/IH4pkM . The site is regarding automotive spray booth equipment. We were ranking on the first page for the keyword "spray booth" (which is the most important one), at place #4 for weeks on end. However since half-way last week, the site has been dropped to half-way the second page (#17).
There are barely any crawler errors listed for our campaign on SEOMoz. There were several pages of which the meta description was missing, but that has been fixed earlier this week. When it comes to link building, I looked at what the top competitors were doing, and was looking for unique link building opportunities myself. We have received 0 webmaster tools warnings as well.
I do not believe we are penalized due to the "penguin" update. After all, if you search for for the company's name in Google, it is still listed on there (# 2). Nor have we been part of dodgy link networks at all.
So my question is, what do you guys believe made us drop the rankings? Is there some on-page issues I am overlooking? Any recommendations to restore out previous rankings?
Kind Regards,
Roderic

G'day John,
Currently our PA/DA is higher than all other sites that are on the first page for keywords such "spray booth" and "spraybooth". Besides that, we have more links than the others as well. The only reason I can think of is that they are ranking higher then us due to their domain age?
Also, link building has been steadily.

Thank you for your suggestions!
-
I also agree with the over-optimization ... the nav structure seems a bit heavy right at the top.
-
Here's some suggestion you might want to consider:
http://www.junair.com.au/spray-booth-products/ >> leads to 404 page, after visiting the 3rd level links , when you click on this link again doesn't work.maybe some miss-configurations there to solve.
The menu links beneath /spray-booth-products are leading to the root of your domain.you might consider to move them into a sub-folder structure.
In general I'd suggest to check your menu and usability structure.
Everything else looks to be seo optimized, but maybe you have been hit by Over-optimization????
-
And so the questions begin....
What about the quality of your incoming links? What are your "spray booth" competitors doing? Any changes there? Have you been steadily building links and content or did you post it all up at once?

When does updating site content affect SERPS?
Can any of you shine a light as to when updating content on a website had any effect on its 'general' placement in the search engines? I appreciate that for an online newspaper, it must be important, but has anyone noticed from theirs or a client's site that by not uploading i.e. product descriptions or articles in general, that their site has taken a hit?

Page Rank drop from 4 to ?
Our site (ecommerce) has been around since 1998. The pagerank has gone from a 4 to a ? The Moz score is still good, but traffic is way down. Never got a warning from Google, and were never part of a BH linking scheme? I'm puzzled? There are some duplicate content issues and missing meta tags, but they were on customer login pages that we have since blocked? Thanks

Site Cleanup Operation
Hi, I hope you can help, I have been asked to look at a friends site that is simply shocking, but somehow ranks for its main target keywords, mainly because they are easy. But going through the site he has like 350 links on his menus that are all follow so I need to change them to nofollow, but should anything else normally be marked such as no index etc on a menu link. Also upon doing a Moz scan there are something like 250 missing meta descriptions from old blog posts. When I looked closer they had been using the blog section for posting relevant news headlines, but thats it, So he has 250 useless, low quality blog posts. My question is, what should I really do with them, ie delete, redirect, canonical etc. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Paul

Are blog pages hurting rankings?
Let me begin by saying that I have a Wordpress site with a customized theme. When I view my webpage's crawl diagnostics, it keeps showing a lot of Warnings. There are 89 pages with Too Many On-Page Links and 90 Pages with a missing meta-description tag. The problem is that the pages are listed as follows for both errors: Blog Page 10 Blog Page 11 Blog Page 12 Etc. There are no other pages, just the blog pages (which include about 7 posts/page). How do I eliminate the too many links without deleting them from individual blog posts, and how do I add meta-description tags to blog pages without duplicating the tag for /blog? Thanks! | | | | |

Dropping the www
We are planning on changing our domain next week. Everything has been covered including google change of domain procedure and redirects etc. I plan on dropping the www during this move as it is redundant and dilutes the keyword density of the domain. What do you guys think of this? Is it worth doing? Thanks, Gareth
